Prostate Protection & Testosterone Therapy

The following includes a list of recommended supplements to prevent benign prostatic hypertrophy and prostate cancer. The prostate gland is not stimulated by testosterone but by its metabolites, estradiol and dihydrotesterone (DHT). The following supplements & lifestyle recommendations prevent the conversion of testosterone to these metabolites and raise testosterone levels.

Daily doses for supplements:

Saw Palmetto (standardized 85-95% fatty acids and sterols) 350mg.
Minerals: Zinc 15-25 mg. (up to 50 mg.), Magnesium 500 mg.
Vitamins: Vitamin C 1000 mg., Vitamin E 400-800 mg., B complex (B6, folate, B12)
Omega 3 Fatty Acids: Flaxseed 1 TBSP and/or Fish oil (DHA/EPA) 1-2 grams
Whole Soy Protein 2-3 times per week
Chrysin with piperine, Nettle Root, Pumpkin Seed / Oil (40 mg.), Indole 3 Carbinol (I3C)/ DIM, Beta-sitosterol, Pygeum Africanum Extract

Lifestyle:

-Exercise, weight loss, eliminating processed foods (hydrogenated oils and refine carbohydrates), and limiting alcohol will offer protection for the prostate gland and raise testosterone levels.
-A pea sized dab (1/4 gram) of low dose (3%) progesterone cream will help balance estradiol and prevent the conversion of testosterone to DHT and estradiol. (Progesterone may be added to the testosterone cream*.)
-A diet high in fruits, vegetables (lycopene, I3C, etc.) and fiber will also benefit the prostate gland.

Testosterone Replacement:

-5mg. sublingual lozenge used three times daily. Place under tongue or between the buccal mucosal. Do not swallow the saliva.

-USP Testosterone Cream* or Gel. Apply to chest, neck, abdomen, upper inner arms, wrists, upper inner thighs once or twice daily. Rotate sites. Do not shower for 2 hours. Wash hands after applying.

PSA (<2.5-4.0) prior to starting therapy. Recheck at 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year.

Follow up testosterone level in 3 months. Dosage adjustments may be required. A follow up estradiol level will also be checked. If estradiol remains elevated, consider Arimidex (aromatase inhibitor) .5mg twice weekly.

YOU MUST FOLLOW UP WITH YOUR MEDICAL DOCTOR OR UROLOGIST.
