Relieving Menopausal Symptoms

Beautiful young woman. Isolated over white background. As women go through menopause, the sudden drop in their body’s estrogen levels can lead to a number of uncomfortable symptoms. These symptoms include hot flashes, disturbances in normal sleep patterns, vaginal dryness, and others.

While many women are able to live normal lives as they go through menopause, in others the severity of these symptoms can inhibit their normal activities. For these women, hormone replacement therapy can often provide relief.

Hormone Therapy Boca Raton – Who Is Eligible?

Typically, hormone replacement therapy for menopausal symptoms is prescribed for women who are diagnosed as being in the third and final stage of natural menopause.

The first stage, perimenopause, is known as the menopause transition stage. It is defined as the time between the beginning of menopause symptoms and one year after the woman has her final menstrual period.

The second stage, menopause, begins one year after the final menstrual period. The third and final phase, postmenopause, is every year after menopause.

Hormone Therapy Boca Raton – Types of Therapy

There are two basic types of hormone therapy for treating menopausal symptoms. The first is estrogen-only therapy.

Estrogen is the naturally occurring female hormone that is produced in lower quantities once a woman enters menopause. Estrogen therapy is also frequently prescribed for women who have undergone a hysterectomy.

The second type of hormone therapy is EPT, which stands for “estrogen plus progesterone” therapy. In this treatment, progesterone is supplemented to traditional estrogen therapy in order to protect women who still have a uterus (in other words, women who haven’t had a hysterectomy) from uterine cancer from estrogen alone.

Hormone therapy typically is administered via an oral pill, a patch, gel, emulsion, spray, or even an injection. It can relieve the symptoms of menopause including hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, osteoporosis, and others.
